Questions: Is there free trade?
What are the benefits of the chicken tax in each country?
What is the downside of the chicken tax in each country?
Analyze... what would have been different in the automobile industry in the last century if
there was no chicken tax?
Reflection:
I would use this image and video to introduce the idea or "free trade" and tariffs.
I would use a blog in my classroom twofold:
1. For parents in order to update them on what we are learning about in the classroom.
2. For students so they can find information about the class easily and having a running dialogue about what we are learning. Students can answer the questions and expand on other students' points.
I love the Chicken Tax activity! It makes a complex concept easy for 6th graders to understand.
ReplyDeleteBlogs seem like they would work in these capacities.....but I wonder about the up keep of monitoring comments etc. Google classroom accomplishes 99% of this, just not the parent communication portion.
My classroom blogger is set up to not allow comments, so no students (or parents) can comment on it - it is purely informational.
DeleteSo does Google Classroom use blog? Also, is that your Glamour Shot photo?
ReplyDeleteSharing what we are doing with students and with parents seems to be the biggest help/positive in using blogs. I think that it is also helpful with sharing lessons and other classroom activities with co-workers.
ReplyDeleteGoogle Classroom's interface isn't the best medium for blogging but it is close. I imagine it will add additional features as it matures in the education world. Teachers have been happy with Blogger because it is part of the Google Suite but Kidblog is a little more teacher and privacy friendly.
ReplyDeleteJackie - A while ago, I used blogger with my 8th graders. I had them create a blog in groups about a specific Middle East conflict. As they learned about the issue, they blogged their new learnings as well as some of the methods being used to help solve this conflict. I required students to comment on other groups' blogs and I managed their comments; it was a lot of work, but it was useful, I think, to help the students communicate with one another through presenting information as well as comments and questions. At Highview we use blogger purely as a communication tool through the form of our teacher websites. I love it and parents seem to be pleased with our uniform layouts and easy access.
ReplyDeleteWell done-JS! First I would like to say I am a big fan of chicken (have been for years). Second your use of Blogger tools is amazing and so insightful. You truly are a master at this craft.
ReplyDeleteJackie, great job. And like Stacey said with our teacher webpages being bloggers, we make them so no one can comment. Parents do like that they know how to navigate every teacher page, because they are all formatted the same way.
